A Clare government TD is calling on the local authority to clamp down on illegal encampments which he claims are “putting a gun to the head of the council” in an attempt to shortcut the housing list.
It comes as a number of caravans which were located in the Cappahard estate moved on, however it’s understood the encampment has now resituated itself at Waterpark House in Drumbiggle.
In a statement to Clare FM, Clare County Council says it is following up on all available processes working in conjunction with the Gardaí and that “appropriate action regarding prosecutions” will be taken where necessary.
Meelick Fianna Fáil TD, Cathal Crowe says the encampments are both an afront to local communities and to those waiting on the council’s housing list.
