The Association of Local Goverment in Ireland is seeking the increase, which would see their income go from just over 16-thousand Euro per year, to 23-thousand, due to what it describes as a substantial increase in workload.
The recently elected President of the Association and Sixmilebridge Councillor John Crowe thinks Councillors deserve to be better paid.
Councillor Crowe claims that it's now costing councillors to carry out work on behalf of their local communties.
