The announced inspection took place over the course of four days between May 16th and 19th last year.

20 residents were in attendance at the Tulla Road facility during the inspection, 16 of whom had been living there for more than 6 months.

No feedback was received by the inspection team from residents, although it was noted that service-users had access to TV, radio, books, and newspapers, arts, crafts and were accompanied on various social outings.

However the centre was found to pose a high-risk to the general health of residents as adequate arrangements were not in place for service-users to access dietetics.

Cappahard Lodge was also noted as being of critical risk to privacy as inspectors found there was no inside lock on the door of a male toilet and patients were observed waiting outside the door of the nurses’ office to get cigarettes.

The conditions of the premises also received a critical risk rating with burn marks observed on the floor covering the corridor outside the smoking room.

While the high door saddles at the exit from the smoking rooms into the enclosed gardens were noted as a trip hazard.

Cappahard Lodge recorded an overall compliance rate of 72% , which is a drop of 15% from its last inspection in 2022.

Following the inspection, the provider submitted a corrective and preventative action plan that aims to address all areas of non-compliance.
