Outlining the situation regarding the burglaries in the first three months of this year, Chief Supt Kerin said there had been a very significant increase in incidents in the Tulla area.

Statistics show six burglaries there in the first three months of 2018.

By contrast there were no burglaries in the same period last year.

The Chief Supt said that since the incidents this year, a criminal gang had been ‘decommissioned’.

Members were before the courts on a range of charges, he said after being involved in a wide variety of crimes.

He said the gang had been on the rampage across parts of East Clare.

The Chief Supt also made a special appeal to the public regarding thefts from vehicles.

He said people were leaving cars unlocked outside their homes and that in many cases of theft from vehicles, owners had not secured them properly.

He asked people to ensure vehicles were locked and said this would go a long way towards reducing thefts from them.
