At around 12:15pm yesterday afternoon, a lone man entered the Post Office in Quilty, where he told staff he had a weapon and demanded money from them but left empty handed.

Around half an hour later, a man entered the branch in Miltown Malbay and again, staff were threatened and money was demanded but nothing was taken.

It’s thought the man left on foot and Gardaí believe the incidents are linked.

Later in the evening, at around twenty past six, a man in his thirties was arrested in Doonbeg, and was detained at Kilrush Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

He was released without charge shortly after midnight. A file is being prepared for the DPP.

Anyone with information on either incident is asked to contact Kilrush Garda Station on 065 908 0550.
