Gardaí in Limerick received a report that a man had called to a house in the Corbally area, claiming to work for PhoneWatch, on Sunday last.

The man offered the home owner an upgrade to their security system for a fee, which they agreed to.

The took their bank card to complete the transaction, but then gave them back a different bank card.

The real bank card was then used later on that day to withdraw €700 from an ATM.

An investigation carried out by Gardaí from Mayorstone Park in Limerick resulted in the arrest of a man in Co Clare this morning. He’s being detailed at Henry Street Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Gardaí say other types of this fraud have occurred in recent days.

A very similar incident occurred in Ennis, and Gardaí are also liaising with their counterparts in Cork and Tipperary too.
