Gardaí are investigating threatening notices, which have been posted in various locations around Kilkee, warning holiday homeowners to get out of the town and go home.

It follows concern in coastal parts of Clare this week about an alleged spike in the number of people coming from outside of the county, to their holiday homes for the long weekend ahead.

This is in direct breach of the government advice to stay within 2km of your primary residence, which is now punishable by the Gardaí by €2,500 or a six-month jail sentence.

The notices have been appearing outside a number of holiday homes, warning that if the owners ignore the advice they “may not have a holiday home to return to”.

Gardaí say they are investigating it and are urging anyone with information to contact them in Kilrush on 065 908 0550.
