This set of figures from the CSO covers Quarter 3 of this year and shows that in total, some 1,691 crimes were recorded in the Clare Garda Division in that time, covering July to September.

That’s an almost 16% drop in the level of crime recorded here in the same period of last year.

When looking at more serious crimes, 14 sexual offences were reported; down from 20 the previous quarter, while there were 13 rape and sexual assaults recorded, a drop of three.

There were 47 burglaries recorded in that time, again a decrease of three, with just one aggravated burglary.

There was also a welcome reduction in drugs-related offences, both in terms of possession with the intent to supply and possession for personal use.

However, it wasn’t all positive news either.

Thefts rose by eight to 216 in that three-month period, while drink driving cases rose from 43 to 56, and 119 cases of criminal damage was recorded, marking a jump of 19% increase.
