At around 3 o’clock yesterday, Gardaí from the Clare Divisional Roads Policing Unit were carrying out a speed check on the dual carriageway at Bunratty, when they detected a car travelling at 150km/hr in the 100 km/hr zone.

After the car failed to stop, a managed Garda pursuit ensued and after an hour, the car pulled over.

During the course of the incident, a package was thrown from the car in the Quin area – this was subsequently recovered and contained €1,000 of suspected cocaine and controlled drugs.

The suspected drugs will now be sent for analysis.

The driver, a man in his 20s, was arrested at the scene and brought to Shannon Garda Station, while the only passenger in the car, a man in his 20s, was brought Shannon Garda Station for the purpose of a search.

During the course of that search, €750 in cash was seized.

The driver of the car has since been charged in relation to road traffic offences, and will appear before the courts at a later date.
