86% Increase In Knife Seizures In Clare

There has been an 86% increase in the number of knife seizures in Clare, despite the Covid-19 lockdown.

Figures released by An Garda Síochána, and reported on in The Irish Times, show there were 26 seizures in the in the first half of this year in the county, compared with 28 in all of last year.

It follows a 20% drop in seizures in Clare between 2017 and 2019.

Nationally, the number of knives seized by Gardaí increased by 13% to over 1,200 in the first half of this year, with one in six knives taken from children.
