Just over a quarter of all cases before the courts in Clare, relating to driving without a licence, have resulted in a conviction over the past three years.

New figures released to Independent TD Tommy Broughan, in a series of parliamentary questions, have revealed that between January 2016 and September last, Clare had the fifth highest conviction rate for the offence in the country, at 26%.

Cork recorded the highest conviction rate of 30%, while the Irish Times reports that only 4% of people in Cavan and Monaghan, who were charged with driving without a licence, were convicted.
