Cree man charged in relation to drugs seizure in west Clare

A 24-year-old man has appeared in court charged in connection with a massive drugs seizure near Kilkee 

Ronan Clohessy of Crossfields, Cree, is charged with possession of almost 700,000 euro worth of drugs for sale or supply at Querrin yesterday.

Thirty-four kilos of cannabis herb were seized after a house was searched in Querrin, Kilkee in West Clare yesterday.

The haul has an estimated value of 680,000 euro and were recovered as part of an ongoing operation by gardaí from Clare and Limerick into the sale and supply of drugs.

The special sitting of Limerick District Court heard the 24-year-old made replied 'sorry' when he was formally charged at 9.32 this morning.

Detective Inspector John Galvin said the State was not objecting to bail but required an independent surety of 5,000 euro.

Judge Aeneas McCarthy granted the accused bail, on condition the 24-year-old sign on daily at Kilrush Garda Station, surrender his passport and reside in Crossfields, Cree.

He remanded Clohessy on bail to appear before Ennis District Court again on 14th of January.
