Simon Coveney met with a group of around 50 West Clare farmers in Kildysart last evening to inspect extensive flooding from the Shannon Estuary, after visiting Quilty and Liscannor earlier in the day.

As Farmers asked for funds to help them re-build river embankments and reclaim their lands, Minister Coveney said he'll be working with the Office of Public Works and Clare County Council to see what cost effective solutions can be found.

But he warned there'll be no quick fix solutions.

Meanwhile, a status orange wind warning reamins in place for all of Munster, as well as Wexford and Galway, but no new instances of flooding been reported in Clare today.

However, the County Council is warning that the risk of potential flooding of rivers remains at various locations.

Elsewhere, South Galway residents are being urged to stay alert for further flooding problems with a new text service.

Galway County Council has launched a new messaging system to provide text message and email alerts directly to the residents and businesses in the Gort, Kinvara and other South Galway areas impacted by the recent severe weather.

The service will issue alerts and timely updates on severe weather events, flood levels and road closures and diversions and further information on subscribing to the new service can be found on www.galway.ie/alerts.

A similar weather alert text system has been up and running in County Clare since last year and details are on the Clare County Council website.
