Court Refuses Application From Aldi Not to Be Identified In Food Contamination Case

A judge at Ennis District Court has refused an application from Aldi for the retailer not to be identified in a case where two children ate a contaminated custard yoghurt product purchased at its store in Ennis.

Judge Patrick Durcan made the order as he approved a joine Personal Injuries Assessment Board payment of over 4,300 euro to sisters Chloe and Julie Connors, who fell ill in November 2013 after they'd consumed the contaminated dessert.

During the hearing, counsel for Aldi argued that the retailers should not be identified because "liability had not been dealt with"

However, Judge Durcan permitted that the firm could be named, saying "this is the kind of argument that Mr. Volkswagen would like to hear."
