County Wide Water Upgrade Works Complete

Upgrades have been carried out at 15 water treatment plants, public water supplies and pumping stations around Clare, as part of a a major disinfection programme by Irish Water and Clare County Council.

It’s hoped the works will help to safeguard water supplies and improve the quality of drinking water for homes and businesses throughout the county.

25 water treatment plants in Clare were assessed to identify if any improvements to the disinfection processes were required.

As a result, upgrades were carried out at 15 plants, public water supplies and pumping stations around the county.

These sites include Ballymacraven, Scarriff, Killadysert, Corofin, , , Flagmount, , Castlelake, New Doolough and Blackweir

Irish Water says five of the countys’ water supplies have now been removed from the Environmental Protection Agency’s Remedial Action List which identifies supplies at risk from inadequate treatment.

These supplies, which serve a total of over 1,700 people, are Carron, Feakle, Kilkeedy, Mountshannon and Turlough.

The upgrades in the Banner county are part of Irish Water’s national disinfection programme which is being rolled out across the country.
