Ennis Councillor Pat Daly has revealed that local representatives are bracing themselves for a cut of up to 10 in the number of elected officials on Clare County Council, as part of cost-cutting reforms.

Rumours among elected representatives also suggest that the number of town councils will be cut from 2014 – Minister Phil Hogan will reveal his plans later this month.

Concern has been expressed that the cuts could lead to a lack of representation for rural areas, and Councillor Daly feels a balance has to be struck
