Council’s Trucks Purchase Questioned

Questions have been raised about the purchase of 21 brand new vehicles for Clare County Council, but it’s understood the move will actually save money.

The local authority has invested in new pick-up trucks with seven vehicles assigned to the Ennis area, 5 in Kilrush and 3 each in the Ennis, Ennistymon and Shannon areas.

The Council has not disclosed how much the 21 trucks have cost as they believe the cost is commercially sensitive information, but councillors were told that buying the vehicles on a 4 year lease purchase basis will avoid large rental bills and actually make savings of 200,000 euro.

Kildysart Councillor Oliver Garry believes the vehicles will be of benefit to the road services and water sections of the council and are a good idea.
