Councils pays out almost 7 million in insurance claims

Almost 7 million euro has been paid out in Insurance Claims made against Clare County Council in the past five years.

The Council has revealed that 453 Insurance Claims were paid out between 2008 and 2012 amounting to a total compensation bill of 6 million, 810 thousand 638 euro.

The figures were provided following a request from Spanish Point Councillor Michael Hillery, though no details of the specific claims or the nature of the incidents involved were revealed.

Insurance Claims were down significantly last year at just under 900, 000 euro compared to almost 1.3 million in 2011 and 2.3 million in 2010.
