Council’s Insurance Costs Climb By Almost 40% In Five-Year Peruiod

A Government decision to shelve plans for a dedicated Garda unit to tackle insurance fraud has been branded a retrograde step.

It comes as it’s been revealed that Clare County Council’s insurance costs have risen by almost 40% in five years – with €2.3 million paid out for its insurance premia last year versus €1.7 million in 2014.

The local authority says the public liability component is the most significant driver of the fluctuation of costs, with the figure climbing steadily until last year, when it eased slightly.
