Council’s Defective Block Scheme Application Will Be Subject To “Rigorous Analysis” – Department

The Department of Housing is warning that there will need to be a ‘rigorous’ analysis of homes in Clare, to allow people here potentially benefit from a scheme designed to help those whose homes are defective.

Clare County Council is believed to be preparing a submission to government which would extend the Defective Concrete Blocks Grant Scheme to affected homeowners in Clare.

Currently, only Donegal and Mayo qualify, and in a letter to Clare County Council, seen by Clare FM, the Department of Housing outlines that while there is an opportunity for the Council here to take the lead on this issue, its call for the extension of the scheme would be closely scrutinised.

It would also be subject to budgetary discussions with the Department of Public Expenditure.

Clare Independent TD Michael McNamara is hopeful a Council submission can be made soon, and says a number of those impacted by this issue are pensioners
