As the Council’s 2016 budget is drawn up, the Council and local representatives have committed to looking at reducing the charge to companies.
As this continues, new figures have shown that commercial vacancy rates in Clare towns are among the highest in the country, with 23 per cent of business in Kilrush unoccupied, along with 22% in Shannon and 18% in Ennis.
Ennis-area Fianna Fáil Councillor Tom McNamara believes something needs to be done to reduce pressure on businesses owners.
