A fresh approach to a controversial road in south east Clare is set to be debated by Clare Councillors this afternoon.

An alternative route line for the Limerick Northern Distributor Road will be proposed at a meeting of the local authority, in light of intense opposition to the project in the area.

Clare Councillors backed the original plans, which have been hailed as vital for economic development, but their Limerick counterparts opted to oppose the move and have since put forward alternative options.

Meelick Councillor Cathal Crowe says the new proposals could go a long way toward solving existing issues.
