Councillors Call For Secondary School In Sixmilebridge

The former mayor of Clare wants to see a secondary school built in Sixmilebridge.

Efforts to develop a second-level education facility in the town were previously unsuccessful and a decision was made to build two schools in Shannon instead.

However, Independent Councillor PJ Ryan insists St. Caimin’s Community School and St. Patrick’s Comprehensive are oversubscribed and no longer have the capacity to provide for the increased demand for school places in the region.

Sixmilebridge resident Councillor Ryan says the numbers currently in primary school in the area would fill a new school.

Sixmilebridge Fine Gael Councillor John Crowe is echoing these calls.

Councillor Crowe believes the preparation of the County Development Plan is the perfect opportunity to fight for a secondary school.
