Councillors Call For Further Water Debate

Clare Councillors have complained that the general public are still being ignored by government, when it comes to the implementation of water charges.

Local representatives have passed motions calling for the new Irish water group to permanently remain under Irish control, that charges be linked to the cost of living, and that a waiver scheme be put in place where required when charges come into effect in 2015.

Questions have also been asked about nearly 25 million euro worth of loans secured against water infrastructure, and whether these too will be taken off the Council’s hands.

East Clare Fianna Fail Councillor Pat Hayes feels it’s an issue which requires further debate, in the interests of the general public.
