Councillors accuse government of cover up on Clare road damage

The government is being accused of covering up the true extent of road damage in Clare following the big freeze through a false economy of funds.

Clare County Council has acknowledged a 2.5 million Euro shortfall in road funding from government compared to the full cost of covering road maintenance and repairs following flooding and the big freeze, estimated at 11 million Euro.

But Ruan Councillor Joe Arkins says last years revised government budget cuts, along with redirected funds due to weather related issues mean that as much as 13 million Euro worth of roadworks will NOT be carried out this year.
