Councillor Ryan, a former oil distributor and Cratloe native who is serving his third term as a local representative, was unaninmously backed for the role last evening.

He’s the 44th first citizen of this county, and succeeds Ennis Fine Gael Councillor Mary Howard who held the role for the past 12 months.

The Sixmilebridge-based representative’s election is part of a power sharing agreement among Councillors that has existed for a number of years.

In his acceptance speech, Councillor Ryan outlined Shannon Airport, Blake’s Corner and Holy Island as a number of his main priorities.

Meanwhile, Corofin-based Fianna Fail Councillor Joe Killeen has been elected Leas-Cathoirleach for the year.

The former INTO President succeeds Whitegate Fine Gael representative Pat Burke in the role until June 2022.
