Clare's local authority has been accused of incompetence and wasting money over its handling of a Planning Strategy for the Ennis area.
It's emerged that the Council has stopped working on the Ennis and Environs Local Area Plan as its development is not permitted by the Department of the Environment under local government reforms which centralised planning services in the county.
The Council blamed their interpretation of changed laws and say the work, which included over 230 submissions from the public, won't go to waste but local Councillors have criticised the blunder as a costly oversight.
Barefield Councillor Ann Norton says it's a waste of public money and resources.
