Clare County Council is to ask the Environment Minister to implement a system of grant funding to assist householders who may be faced with large bills to upgrade their septic tanks.
The Environment Minister has confirmed that rural homeowners will have to pay a 50 euro registration charge, to facilitate the inspection of their tanks, and ensure they comply with European guidelines.

The scheme must be carried out as per a directive from the EU Council, but as of yet there has been no announcement regarding assistance for people who will have to replace their tanks.
East Clare Councillor Joe Cooney feels they should be given funding.
