Clare County Council has withdrawn its plans for a controversial 122 space car park in Ennis.
The development was intended for a green space at the Waterpark Campus in Drumbiggle.
The proposal received eight public submissions opposing the development including from Cllrs Johnny Flynn and Tom O’Callaghan, local election candidates Bridget Ginnity and Antoinette Bashua Baker, Kilfenora Engineer, Michael Duffy and a local residents petition that garnered 479 signatures.
The objections lodged ranged from the potential destruction of a memorial garden to child victims of domestic abuse, the removal of one of the town’s few green spaces, potential air pollution, traffic congestion, damage to existing ecosystems and biodiversity and a lack of consultation with nearby residents.
