Council Urged To Crack Down On Fuels “Poisoning The Air” Of Ennis

Clare County Council is being urged to crack down on the sale of fuels which are said to be “poisoning the air” of Ennis.

This week’s meeting of Ennis Municipal District has heard claims that the county town has a “smog issue”, with Fine Gael Councillor Mary Howard calling for stronger measures to be put in place to tackle the problem.

The specified limit of particulate matter, which is typically made up of dust, soot and smoke, was exceeded seven times in Ennis last year, representing a reduction of 36% from 2023.

Smoky coal is currently banned in Ireland due to its association with respiratory problems but Councillor Howard believes it’s still being sold in Clare.
