Council Urged To Do More To Support Shannon Voluntary Sector

Clare County Council is being urged to do more to support the community and voluntary sector in Shannon.

It follows concerns about the viability of plans to develop a major civic amenity, the Shannon Venue, and a delay in the creation of a long-awaited town park.

The Shannon Venue project has been shelved pending a meeting next month with government officials, when efforts will be made to fine tune an application to secure significant government funding.

Chairperson of the Shannon Municipal District, Councillor Gerry Flynn insists that the voluntary effort which has gone into building up the town must be supported.
