Council Urged To Explore Shipping Opportunities In Shannon Estuary

Optimism has been expressed that the ESB’s plans to revolutionise its operations at Moneypoint Power Station will help sustain greater industrial activity in West Clare.

A largely positive note has been struck by Clare Councillors following a behind-closed-doors briefing given to them by ESB management this week.

Earlier this month, the company announced a multi-billion euro plan which will include an offshore wind-farm and is expected to result in a massive jobs boost for the area.

Lissycasey Fianna Fáil Councillor PJ Kelly is hoping other opportunities will also be explored for Moneypoint, including in the area of trans-shipment, which could see the Shannon Estuary used as a staging post for huge container ships to off-load their containers onto smaller vessels.
