Council to proceed with budget plans despite cut by Minister

Clare County Councillors have opted to proceed with their budget plans for the remainder of the year, despite the Environment Minister’s decision to with-hold almost a quarter of a million euro worth of funding for the local authority.

Minister Phil Hogan’s decision came in response to a 62% compliance rate on the household charge in the county, and prompted a special meeting of Clare County Councillors last evening.

Local representatives have opted not to amend budgetary plans for the remainder of the year, in the hopes that the funds will be paid later in the year.
