Clare County Councillors hold emergency talks today, to look at the local authority’s response to the devastating weather of the last week.
Ahead of this afternoon’s talks, hopes have been expressed in some of Clare’s coastal communities that flood defences will be bolstered while repairs are carried out in the aftermath of Storm Christine.
Local representatives are hopeful they will be given an indication as to how much is required for post-storm repairs.
Meanwhile, the Promenade in Lahinch is set to be back in business today one week after surging tides and massive waves tore up its surface.
Clare County Council officials say the car park and promenade in Lahinch will re-open to the public at midday, following a massive clean-up and ahead of major repair works which many say could cost several million euro.
Stone walls and railings were destroyed by the high tides last Friday and Monday while street lights were knocked over and large sections of the promenade and car park were torn up.
Ennistymon Senator Martin Conway has complimented Council engineers for their emergency repair work in the past week, as well as local clean-up volunteers in Lahinch though he admits there’s massive work to be done to repair the damage done to one of the country’s most popular seaside towns.
