Council Submits Plan For Roundabout At Ennis Junction

A long sought-after piece of infrastructure on the northside of Ennis could become a reality in the near future.

Plans have been lodged for a mini roundabout and associated traffic calming measures at the junction between the Lahinch Road and Shanaway Road.

It’s been a subject of countless Ennis Municipal District meetings over the last decade but very soon, construction could be commencing at the busy Claureen intersection.

Clare County Council has submitted a planning application for works at the site, with a mini roundabout being the central feature of the project.

The development would include two raised controlled pedestrian crossings with central islands on the Lahinch Road as well as an uncontrolled crossing on Shanaway Road.

Additional public lighting columns, new gullies, signage and road markings are also included in the proposal.

The local authority states an Environmental Impact Assessment screening statement has been prepared and has found there’s “no real likelihood of significant effects on the environment” arising from the development.

Submissions in relation to the plans can be made up until August 8th while a decision is due to be reached by October 2nd.
