Council Says NRA Lacks Funds For Kilnamona Works

Clare County Council says safety improvements a stretch of the N85 Ennis-Lahinch Road, which has been dubbed the ‘ugly mile’ by one Councillor, is among it’s top priorities.

However, the local authoritiy says the funding simply isn’t there for the required works at present.

A consultancy firm has carried out design works for a stretch of the road, either side of Kilnamona Cross, which has been the site of a number of accidents, including a two-car collision on Sunday which saw four people, including a pregnant woman, hurt.

The Council is now liasing with the NRA to secure funding for the project, but Senior Roads Engineer Tom Tiernan says that’s a difficult task given ongoing funding constraints.
