Clare County Council says anyone caught fly tipping in the county will be prosecuted.

It follows an incident outside Mountshannon, where two matresses were dumped at the side of a public road.

The matresses were removed yesterday, however the local authority says this is dependent on resources being available and that typically staff have to be diverted from other duties to deal with such issues.

In a statement to Clare FM, the Council says it investigates all instances of flytipping and where evidence is obtained, it will prosecute the offenders to the full extent of the waste management legislation.

Barry O’Donovan from Tuamgraney has told Clare FM’s Morning Focus says incidences like this are unacceptable.
