Clare County Council has revealed that it considered applying a name and shame policy to those convicted of littering- but has ruled it out.

County manager Tom Coughlan told members of the Clare Joint Policing Committee that it had sought government advice on the policy, only to be told that they should not go ahead.
In recent weeks, the local authority asked the owners of holiday homes to refrain from using public bins for domestic waste – Councillors and Oireachtas representatives have called for stiffer fines for those caught breaking the law, and for their names to be published.
One of those advocating such a strategy is South-East Clare Labour Councillor Pascal Fitzgerald
