Clare County Council has revealed that it has spent over half a million euro on the maintenance of traveller accomodation sites across the county since the beginning of last year.
In a report that will be presented to local representatives at their meeting today, the Council also reveals that it has incurred 20 million euro of capital expenditure on ten sites across the county in the past decade.
There are six such sites in Ennis, three in Ennistymon and one in Shannon – collectively they consist of 50 houses and 13 serviced bay units, but ten of these are unusable due to ‘arson and vandalism’
The Council’s Housing Director Bernadette Kinsella also reveals that almost 300 thousand euro has been spent on just maintaining one of the sites, at Beechpark in Ennis, since the beginning of last year. Much of this is due to security costs.
