For the second year in a row, Clare County Council has passed a motion requesting the suspension of on-shore wind farm development until national wind energy guidelines are updated.
The local authority will now write to the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage to share its position.

The national guidelines have not been updated since 2006, when a large turbine was considered over 100m, and this week the High Court has quashed a judicial review stalling the construction of eight 170-metre turbines at Fahybeg in East Clare.
Ardnacrusha Fianna Fáil Councillor Rachel Hartigan says the system is completely outdated.
