The Mayor of Ennis believes Clare County Council will issue a final decision on a proposed data centre in the vicinity of the county town ‘soon’.
It’s after a public meeting was held by environmental group Futureproof Clare in Lifford last evening. where ‘deep concerns’ were aired by the group over the potential environmental impact of the centre.
Plans for the €1.2 billion project were lodged last year by Art Data Centres, seeking permission to build the facility on the Tulla Road on the eastern outskirts of Ennis at Junction 13 on the M18 motorway.
The design submitted to the Council pledges a low carbon model by using external air for cooling, collecting rainwater and using solar panels for hot water generation.
Cathaoirleach of the Ennis Municipal District and Fianna Fáil Councillor Clare Colleran Molloy insists she has faith in the planning system to take all factors into account.
