Council Has No Doubt New Ennis Market Will Be Full On Trading Days

That's despite a decision by traders in the town's farmers market to remain at Rosleven, where they moved in recent times.

The new covered market will be officially opened by Mayor of Ennis Ann Norton at 3 o'clock this afternoon, marking the completion of Phase One of the 1.75 million euro redevelopment at Garraunakilla, the site of the Farmer's Market.

But traders who formerly operated out of the area have decided to remain on at Roslevan, citing parking difficulties in the town as the main reason for the decision.

Chairperson of the Ennis Farmers Market, Andrea Casey says it was an easy decision for them to make.

Clare County Council has received 40 expressions of interest from people hoping to be based there.

Director of Service with Clare County Council Ger Dollard says he has no doubt that the facility will be successful, depite the decision by farmers market traders.

Trading will take place on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, beginning next week, with up to 21 traders providing a wide range of high quality goods, while on non-trading days, the facility is available for parking.

Parking is also available at the near-by multi-story carpark, where there are 300 spaces.

And, for those interested in sampling local produce and goods, the message is that from next week, Ennis Market is open for business.
