The local authority has been allocated a total of €572,000 for investment in small, medium and large-scale community climate action projects which make communities more sustainable.

A major aim of the funding is to enable the council to work in partnership with communities in order to reduce their reliance on carbon-emitting energy sources in a “considered and structured way”.

In addition, €3 million has been made available to support cross-border and all-island community climate action partnerships between community organisations in Clare and in Northern Ireland.

The projects must include at least one of five themes, which are community and energy; travel; food and waste; shopping and recycling; and local and environmental action.

The Community Climate Action Programme is intended to support the delivery of the new five-year Climate Action Plan for Clare which is currently in development.

Community groups who wish to apply for the programme can do so through the Clare County Council website.
