Clare County Council has been given the green light to carry out the last major stage of the flood alleviation works required for the town of Ennis.

An Bord Pleanala has approved an application from the local authority to construct the Ennis South Flood Relief Scheme which when completed will deliver flood defences in Clonroadmore, Ballybeg and Clareabbey.
The areas were among those badly affected by the heavy rains of November 2009.
The estimated cost of the work is four million euro, and Senior Engineer with Clare County Council Tom Tiernan says support for this will now be sought from central government
