Council Funding Reduction ‘Not A Cutback’

A Clare government TD insists the Environment Minister’s decision to reduce the local authority allowances is not a cutback, but a move to incentivise their collection of the household charge.

Clare County Council will see it’s Local Government Fund allowance cut by almost 240 thousand euro for the third quarter, in line with the numbers of Clare residents who have paid the controversial charge.

38% of homeowners here have not done so, and the Department may further reduce the Council’s allocation, saying it’s final payment of 2012 will also be reviewed.
