Council extends Clare invite to Obama

Clare County Council is to invite the US President Barack Obama to visit the county.

Councillors agreed to issue the formal invitation at their meeting in Ennis last evening

The move forms part of efforts to entice more tourists to visit Clare.

President Obama’s predecessor in office, President George W Bush, famously visited the county in 2004 for the EU-US summit at Dromoland Castle, while John F Kennedy, Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon are among the serving US Presidents to have set foot on Clare soil.
