Council Draws Down More Housing Adaptation Grant Funding Than Almost Every Other Local Authority In 2020

Clare County Council drew down more funding to help elderly people and those with a disability adapt their houses in 2020 than almost every other local authority in Ireland.

New figures from the Department of Housing show €440,000 was requested in this county last year.

The Department of Housing provides funding under Housing Adaptation Grants for older people and those with a disability, to assist people in private houses to make their accommodation more suitable for their needs.

Individual initiatives are then funded 80 percent by the Department and 20 percent by Councils.

The local authority here requested and drew down €440,000 for these procedures in 2020 – only Monaghan County Council withdrew more.

Clare County Council has requested and drawn down more than €2.49 million since 2016 under the same scheme – the highest amount in the country.

While figures requested by the local authority here for this year are not yet disclosed, the average draw down of nearly half a million euro annually here since 2016 would suggest further investment here again in 2021.
