Clare County Council says it had little choice but to begin a large-scale road works project which will add to the journey times of commuters between West Clare and Ennis from today.
Resurfacing works on the N85 Ennis-Kilrush Road began at 7:30 this morning, with the route now closed from Shaughnessy’s Cross to approximately Talty’s Joinery in Lissycasey
Local access remains in place, but motorists using the road are advised to use the R473 via Kildysart and the R485 to Shaughnessy’s Cross.
The works are set to remain in place until July 22nd.
The time of the works, during the tourist season, has been called into question but Tom Tiernan, Senior Engineer with Clare County Council, says it had to be done now.
