Council Calls On Government To Expedite Gambling Regulation

Clare County Council will write to the Department of Justice to call for the Gambling Regulation Bill to be introduced as soon as possible.

The bill would essentially make retailers and bookmakers contribute to a new social impact fund and impose financial penalties on licensees which breach advertising restrictions.

Currently 2% of all betting firms’ gross margin profits go towards the gambling levy and since 2001 this levy has contributed €1.5bn to the horse and greyhound industry.

Lahinch Green Party Councillor Liam Grant says the policy is completely contradictory.
