Clare County Council is being called on to establish a business case for the reopening of Crusheen railway station as a matter of urgency.
Irish Rail CEO Jim Meade, himself a Sixmilebridge native, told the Oireachtas Transport Committee last month that the organisation would support the move if the local authority provided such a proposal.
The Council told a meeting of East Clare representatives this week that the move will be taken into consideration in the context of a full transportation strategy, which as of yet has no timeline for publication.
Fianna Fail councillor Pat Hayes believes the wheels need to be set in motion more quickly to re-establish adequate rail links in Crusheen.
